How big are 1000 piece puzzles? There is no unequivocal answer to that. Because per puzzle brand (for example Jumbo, Ravensburger, King) the dimensions are different. I have made an overview of the sizes of puzzles of 1000 pieces, which are now known to me. I took them off the boxes. Here is the overview, with the data I have now.
In the table below an overview of the sizes of the puzzles of Jan van Haasteren. Click on a link in the table and you will see an example of a Jan van Haasteren puzzle per dimensions:
JIGSAW puzzles are simply the Wasgij puzzles ('Wasgij' is the reverse of 'Jigsaw', the English word for jigsaw puzzle) and these are Jumbo brand jigsaw puzzles. The list below with dimensions and sizes of the puzzles is exactly the same as the WASGIJ / JUMBO list.

How many pieces of puzzle what age?
In the table below are the Ravensburger puzzles and their dimensions for example taken. Just to give an indication of the age of a child / someone and how many pieces of a puzzle he / she can make. However: it is only a guideline, always know that every child is different. I have made a separate page about this with extensive information about 'How many pieces of puzzle and what age of a child'
Doing puzzles on the regular floor or on your table does have drawbacks. For example:
You make your puzzle on the living room or kitchen table: you have not finished your puzzle and the family still has to eat or drink on that table. Then you have to put your puzzle back in the box. Or creatively slide it onto a wooden plate or, for example, a tray. Far from ideal of course
You make your puzzle on the floor: it can easily get in the way of other housemates. Or they will get annoyed that that puzzle has been lying on the floor for so long. From my own experience
But of course it also has advantages! Personally, I think it's nice to put down your puzzle in the middle of the house or a room and start puzzling. The threshold for others to join is very small. And you can also put a few pieces of your puzzle every few minutes that you have time. It is always immediately ready for use! So perfect and cozy.
Experience shows that people often look for a different solution, namely the puzzle mat or puzzle case. A puzzle mat is a kind of cloth on which you place your puzzle and when you want to clean it up, you roll this cloth around a large hard cardboard roll. You can then easily place it anywhere and your puzzle pieces are neatly rolled up in the puzzle mat. Next time you want to start puzzling, roll out the puzzle mat again and you can immediately start puzzling again. Do you want to see all my reviews of the puzzle mats? Then read the pages 'Puzzle mats for puzzles of 1000 pieces'
Dimensions of the puzzles on a puzzle mat
To compare how big the jigsaw puzzles are, when you put them on a puzzle mat. I always make the puzzles on a puzzle mat that is 1 meter 60 wide and 90 CM high. Then you have a good view of the size of the puzzles. I also placed the box on the puzzle mat. As an example of a Jan van Haasteren puzzle of 68 centimeters wide and 49 centimeters high:
Puzzle of 1000 pieces on a puzzle mat of 1 meter 60 wide and 90 centimeters high
I always make my puzzles on a puzzle mat, with the above-mentioned format. 1000 piece puzzles are my favorite puzzles. I have a soft puzzle mat from Jumbo called Puzzle Roll. I think this puzzle mat is still quite tight, when I explain the pieces of a 1000 puzzle on it. That would look like this, for example: As you can see, this puzzle mat is already quite full. I notice, when I start to roll up this puzzle (because I haven't finished it yet), that the pieces sometimes fall out. If you then roll it out again to start, you will have to turn 20 to 30 pieces again, because they will then have fallen over the wrong way. Here you see me rolling up a puzzle on this puzzle mat:
What you will do with a finished puzzle, of course, depends on your own wishes. I did write a page about it with the different options: 'What do you do with a puzzle that is finished'. You can frame a puzzle that you really like and hang it on the wall or give it to someone as a gift. But how do you frame a puzzle you've made? I'll explain it to you on one of the pages below. There are three options:
