Puzzle frame 68x49 Homedecoration Easy White Plastic - Unpacking

I ordered this puzzle list from Homedecoration in September 2021, at Bol.com for 30,85 euros. I wanted to see if a 1000 piece puzzle (size 68×49 centimeters) would fit into a 68×49 puzzle frame. You would say that should fit, and it also fits 🙂 But you can also think of a puzzle list of 50 × 70 centimeters. I made a special page for this: do you choose a puzzle of 1000 pieces of 68×49 for a puzzle list of 68×49 or for a puzzle list of 50×70 centimeters?

What does the front of the Homedecoration Easy White puzzle frame 68x49 look like?

Under the hard plastic plate (no glass) is the packing slip from bol.com. There is also a kind of instruction paper under the hard plastic plate:

What's on the paper?
– Please remove the protective film from both sides of the art glass
– To open the frame, push the end of the connecting corner up 5mm, then push the corner out.
– It also contains a QR code with the text 'Scan me for video'. I thought that would be a helpful instructional video, but it's this video that shows you:

At first I thought it was still the advertisement on Youtube, but it really is the video that goes with it. I thought this was a bit weird because it doesn't help me that much. It is also in English and it is not a Homedecoration movie. I thought little effort to make a video myself, just like I do on this website 🙂

What does the back of the Homedecoration Easy White puzzle frame 68x49 look like?

This is the back of the puzzle list:

– As you can see, you can hang this puzzle both horizontally and vertically. There are two mounting hooks.
– Furthermore, in the corners you see the plastics that you can use to open the puzzle frame, where you can see how to do that in another video.

Unpinning the puzzle list from Homedecoration

As you can see on the manual it says:
“To open the frame, push the end of the connecting corner up 5mm, then push the corner out”. I found this quite complicated and couldn't figure it out right away. Had to try this a few times first.

In this image you can see which items are involved, you have to move the end of 1 of the black plastic 'hooks' slightly up and then press.

If you watch the video I'm sure it's clear to you. Really easy to take off and put back on. But I had to try a few times first (which I don't show in the video):

Removing the plastic protective film from the puzzle frame

What is also written in the manual:
“Please remove the protective film from both sides of the art glass”. However: I am almost 100% sure that this only needs to be done on 1 side, namely the side where you can see the foil very easily and also easily remove it. I also went to remove the foil from the second side, but that is much more difficult AND the art glass then becomes really matte. So: only remove 1 side of the foil (at least with this puzzle list!):

You can see the result how it turned out. Removing two sides of foil is not good; otherwise the plastic glass plate will become very matt:

What is the material and quality of the plastic sheet of the Homedecoration Easy White puzzle frame 68x49?

The plastic plate that is in the puzzle frame is flexible. It's definitely not glass. And therefore not super transparent, but ok quality. I've seen more transparent plastic. Nothing else to note.

What is special about this puzzle list?

Not so much in sight, it's a puzzle list like many others. But: this puzzle list is one of the few that is available in the sizes 1×68 centimeters. That is exactly the same size as many 1000 piece puzzles. Almost all other puzzle lists are in the 50×70 format. Which size you choose depends on your own wishes. But I wrote some kind of advice for you: do I choose a puzzle frame of 68×49 or of 70×50 for a puzzle of 1000 pieces?

What are the actual dimensions of the Homedecoration Easy White puzzle frame 68x49?

The actual dimensions of the Hoemdecoration puzzle frame are 50 centimeters high x 69 centimeters wide. That includes the border. The brim is 1 centimeter wide throughout. So what you're left with on both sides if you don't include the edges:
– width: 69 centimeters – 1 centimeters – 1 centimeters = 67 centimeters
– height: 50 centimeters – 1 centimeters – 1 centimeters = 48 centimeters
So if you have a puzzle of 1000 pieces that are 68 centimeters wide and 49 centimeters high, you will see that 0,5 centimeters are missing on all sides of your puzzle (Explanation: puzzle is 67 wide, puzzle list is 68 centimeters wide. then a total of 1 centimeter remains. Dividing by 2 means that 0,5 centimeters of your puzzle will be below the frame on both sides). Keep that in mind. Again the dimensions of the puzzle list and the width of the borders:

Does the Homedecoration Easy White puzzle frame 68x49 come with a passe-partout?

Perhaps not known to everyone, a passe-partout is a border. Measuring made of hard cardboard, which is located in the puzzle frame and which can be placed around or over the puzzle. Or if the puzzle is too small for the puzzle list, you can use the passe-partout as a 'white background', for example. In the latter case, you will not see the hard brown cardboard back of the Homedecoration puzzle list, for example.

Framing the puzzle without glue

The advantage of this puzzle list is that it is exactly 68×49 centimeters. That size is almost non-existent. The disadvantage is that you 'slide' the hard cardboard plate and plastic screen somewhere in the puzzle list. As a result: if you also place a puzzle between the hard cardboard plate and the plastic screen, then: you can NOT slide the whole thing into the puzzle list anymore. Then it is too thick. That's a disappointment. So if you want to frame a puzzle in this list, the only option to do that is: frame your puzzle WITHOUT the plastic screen. This is possible and you can also hang it up (see my video below, where I do that), but the puzzle is then unglued in the frame and also without a screen over it. I have no experience whether or not your puzzle will ever fall apart. My advice on this is then: going to glue your puzzle with puzzle glue, and then hang it in this list. So, as you can see in the video below, I'm leaving out the plastic screen. Furthermore, it is very important to easily slide the puzzle on the cardboard plate, that you have a puzzle mat (or something else!), on which you can easily slide your puzzle. An Qualico puzzle mat from my example works fine, a green felt puzzle mat definitely not going to work (not?).
It is also important that you are very careful not to break the puzzle pieces, because the puzzle fits tight in the frame. Better: it fits in, but sometimes the frame bends a little. So pay attention! As you can see I succeeded. You can see the whole process in the video below:

Hanging the puzzle in the puzzle list

Hanging the framed puzzle is not that difficult. The advantage is that you can hang the puzzle list both horizontally and vertically. This Sports Day 2 is a vertical puzzle. You have to bend the black suspension pin on this puzzle list a bit, otherwise you can't hang the nail on it. Also important: are you going to glue the puzzle or try to hang it without glue. I don't know if the puzzle is still there. See the texts and videos above: the plastic frame does not fit. Everything again in one video:

Remove puzzle from the puzzle list again

Also when removing the puzzle from the puzzle list (if you want to put it on a puzzle mat again!) it is important that you can easily slide it onto your puzzle mat (I use the Qualico puzzle mat). A green felt puzzle mat will not work well. If you want to put the puzzle in the box, you are of course ready quite easily and quickly. I show you how to get the puzzle back on a puzzle mat. In summary: use this puzzle frame for puzzle framing?

It's possible. But a few things for you to mention:
– Ideal that this puzzle frame is 68×49, that size is not widely available. Often the puzzle lists are 70×50.
– The plastic plate does NOT fit in between. So you have to start gluing your puzzle. OR you hang your puzzle in the frame without a plastic protective plate.
– A small part of your puzzle falls under the list. With a 50×70 frame, you have space left around your puzzle.

See what you like and what you want to do. You can always try another list if it suits your needs better.
