Same puzzle published under multiple names?
There is quite a bit of confusion about the name of this puzzle, because the same image appears under the name 'The Bandstand' – The Music Pavilion' – 'Concert in The Park'. what about? Ravensburger was the first to publish this puzzle in 1985, it was then called Park Concert – Concert in the Park. Then Jumbo became the publisher and started with 1992 pieces in 500 and called the puzzle The Bandstand - In the park. Then came the 1500 and 1000 pieces of puzzles, the name became The Bandstand – The Music Pavilion.

This is one of the few puzzles by Jan van Haasteren in which the shark fin does NOT appear.

| Description | Is this rare? It doesn't seem like it, but I'll include it anyway! As far as I'm concerned, it's rare. The puzzle that comes with this is also a Ravensburger issue with number 15637. Two puzzles with a story. Jan almost signed for Ravensburger, but it ended up being Jumbo! The story behind this puzzle is a special one. And also a bit confusing, because the same puzzles have been released under different names and by different publishers. The various names for this puzzle are: 'Park Concert' and 'Concert in the Park' and 'The Bandstand' and 'Het Muziekpaviljoen'. Ravensburger first published the puzzle in 1985, which was then called 'Park Concert - Concert in the Park'. However, Jan did not sign for Ravensburger and signed a contract with Jumbo for several years. Jumbo released this puzzle with 1992 pieces in 500 and it was called 'The Bandstand - In the park'. In 1500 pieces, the puzzle was published again in 2006 by Jumbo under the name 'The Bandstand - Het Muziekpaviljoen'. The puzzle was also published by a few other parties (so that the number always starts with an '8'): Jumbo, Holdson, Bart Smit, a Scandinavian edition and Intertoys. This puzzle in combination with the other Ravensburger 'Billiards' is really a collector's item. |

Explained the HFW variants - 4 puzzles with the same number
As you can see on the back of this puzzle from HFW, there are 4 puzzles published by HFW in this 'series', and these 4 puzzles all have the same number (08809):

| Description | This puzzle is part of a set of four puzzles published by the New Zealand puzzle manufacturer Holdson Funny World (HFW)This puzzle is numbered 08809, as are three other puzzles in this set. For more information about this entire set, please visit the "Holdson's Funny World puzzles 08809This puzzle is rare because all of them were released in New Zealand. It's also more of a collector's item, as all the plates/drawings from these puzzles were also released in a Jumbo version in the Netherlands. There's a set of older puzzles published by Holdson Funny World—and these boxes all look different from the current, recognizable blue Jumbo puzzle boxes. Many of these boxes have multiple bright colors. A total of 48 of these older puzzles were published by Holdson Funny World (HFW), and these are therefore the rarer ones. You hardly ever see these puzzles on marketplaces like Marktplaats. You really have to look on second-hand puzzle trading platforms near New Zealand and Australia. The downside: if you want to buy one, you have to pay a lot of import duties, and the puzzle often takes a long time to arrive. To this day, Jan van Haasteren puzzles are still published in the familiar blue puzzle box. These puzzles in the familiar blue boxes are NOT rare; you can easily order them from an online store in New Zealand. This puzzle, "The Bandstand," numbered 08809, is rare. However, the illustration is not, as "The Bandstand" (The Music Pavilion) was also released by other brands, such as Jumbo. Its release by HFW makes it rare and often an instant collector's item. It comes in a beautiful, colorful box with these four colors on the four sides: blue, green, red, and pink. The back of the box shows which four puzzles belong to the "set" numbered 08809. |

Laying the puzzle
I always do every puzzle on a puzzle mat (this time on The Friendly for 5000 pieces – plenty of room!), and I did that this time too. Laying a special puzzle, with a story behind it. That's nice, and it's also an oldie from the early days of Jan van Haasteren. I always start by sorting the edges of the puzzle and also place the edges first:

Started – as I expected everyone – with the concert building in the park, which was really overloaded with musicians. And at the bottom right with the fountain. These were relatively easy to make:

The spectators at the concert in the park were still difficult, so I saved that for last. As usual with Jan van Haasteren, there is chaos! A lot is happening

I saved the green pieces of the grass until last, which was difficult to lay, but hey, it's almost finished. A very fun puzzle to make I must say:

and finally I finished the puzzle:

Review video about this puzzle
I made a review video about this puzzle:
How long will it take you to complete this 1000 piece puzzle?
I usually keep track of how much time I spend completing a puzzle, but this time my 17-year-old daughter helped. She was on holiday and suddenly had time to do puzzles! Very nice and that's why I let go of time. So no information about this this time. I must say that this was not a very difficult or difficult puzzle. I think it would have taken me about 4,5 – 5,5 hours.
About Jumbo puzzles

Jumbo (not to be confused with our supermarket Jumbo!) makes toys, games and puzzles. Jumbo, for example, has made the very well-known games such as “Human don't get annoyed” and “Stratego” and “PimPamPet”. Games that have been around for generations and are still widely played by both young and old. Jumbo has been making and developing toys since about 1900. In the early years of the company, only toys from other countries were imported to the Netherlands. However, since about 1930 it was decided to also make their own toys, at the time manufacturing wooden toys, which was very popular at the time. Almost all toys in those years were made of wood. An important spearhead was that the toys made by Jumbo had to be of very good quality; it had to be as strong as an Elephant. An elephant had to stand on it! The red elephant has been the hallmark of Jumbo's games and puzzles for years. The name Jumbo and the red elephant together form the logo from about 1935. The Jumbo elephant is drawn by Mr. Möhr. He worked at an advertising agency and regularly signed for Hausemann & Hötte. Mr Möhr was at one point commissioned to design a beautiful new elephant logo for the Hausemann & Hötte toys. The logo has changed a bit since then. For example, the eye has grown over the years and has dropped slightly more, resulting in a friendlier elephant.
In the past, the elephant was not only used in the color red, but in all kinds of colors such as blue, yellow, black, white and green. All those colors were cozy and playful. For example, one time there was a yellow elephant on the box and the other time a red one. It was usually looked at which color best matched the color of the box. It was not until the end of the 60s that the red elephant was definitively chosen. Red is a color that stands out and attracts attention.
From 1945 Jumbo also started to focus on games made of cardboard. Jumbo has therefore been a guarantee for strong quality for years! Jumbo is a unique Dutch company with a rich history, with its head office in Zaandam. About 130 employees work for Jumbo. With a turnover of €75 million, Jumbo is a medium-sized European player in toys. Jumbo has sales offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. They export to more than 25 countries around the world.
In 1980 Jumbo starts the production of Jan van Haasteren Puzzles.

I made this puzzle in August 2023 and wrote the review above. It is a puzzle with a story - drawn by Jan van Haasteren and published by Ravensburger. Very nice to do this puzzle with that story in your head. Cheerful puzzle and you can see a number of various recurring elements in it.
