Puzzle published for 150 years of Artis

Artis, the beautiful zoo in Amsterdam, was founded on May 1, 1838. In 1988, on the 150th anniversary, the Planetarium was opened. In 2003 a puzzle of 1000 and 5000 pieces was issued for this purpose. The nice thing here is that it is quite unknown if and why the link with those 150 years exists. Finally I was able to figure it out. It's like this. You see the royal couple Willem Alexander and Maxima on the puzzle anyway. The celebration consists of Artis celebrating its 24th anniversary on April 2002, 150! I got the following text from the website of the Royal house about this:
“Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will attend the celebration of 24 years of Royal Artis in Amsterdam on Wednesday 2002 April 150. During the celebration, Princess Margriet will accept the Patronage of Artis. She is following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother. The Princess will also be officially opening a series of recent expansions and renovations of the zoo this afternoon. Almost 150 years ago, on May 1, 1852, Artis received the Royal predicate from King Willem III. Since then, the zoo has been known in full as the Royal Zoological Society Natura Artis Magistra. King Willem III was patron of the Society. He was succeeded in this position by Queen Wilhelmina and later Queen Juliana. The current Artis expansions are located at the Entrepotdok. The eye-catcher is the Africa Savannah, where antelopes, zebras and wildebeest live. On this side of Artis are also the tropical Borneokas, a modern animal care center, the underground canal water purification and the center for generating natural electricity. Thanks to the extensions, Artis can also renew on a large scale in the historic garden. For example, the Giraffen Perk, the Wolvenvallei and the Bison Perk have already been redesigned. Artis will continue the expansion and innovations in the coming years. Among other things, the savanna biotope will be expanded on the current parking lot.”
In short: the 150th anniversary of Artis is being celebrated, and this puzzle was made in honor of this. You will also see '150' in the top left of the puzzle in the banner of the band playing:

DescriptionThis puzzle is part of a set of four puzzles published by the New Zealand puzzle manufacturer Holdson Funny World (HFW)This puzzle is numbered 08472, as are three other puzzles in this set. For more information about this entire set, please visit the "Holdson's Funny World puzzles 08472This puzzle is rare because all of them were released in New Zealand. It's also more of a collector's item, as all the plates/drawings from these puzzles were also released in a Jumbo version in the Netherlands. There's a set of older puzzles published by Holdson Funny World—and these boxes all look different from the current, recognizable blue Jumbo puzzle boxes. Many of these boxes have multiple bright colors. A total of 48 of these older puzzles were published by Holdson Funny World (HFW), and these are therefore the rarer ones. You hardly ever see these puzzles on marketplaces like Marktplaats. You really have to look on second-hand puzzle trading platforms near New Zealand and Australia. The downside: if you want to buy one, you have to pay a lot of import duties, and the puzzle often takes a long time to arrive. To this day, Jan van Haasteren puzzles are still published in the familiar blue puzzle box. These puzzles in the familiar blue boxes are NOT rare; you can easily order them from an online store in New Zealand. This puzzle, "The Zoo," numbered 08472, is rare. However, the illustration isn't, as "The Zoo" was also released by other brands, such as Jumbo. Its release by HFW makes it rare and often a collector's item. It comes in a beautiful, colorful box with these four colors on the four sides: blue, green, red, and pink. The back of the box shows which four puzzles belong to the "set" numbered 08472.

DescriptionThis is a rare puzzle and that is because this is a publication by the American puzzle manufacturer Ceaco. Within Ceaco you have various puzzle series and this is the edition that falls within the 'Cartoon Capers' series. Within the puzzles of 550 pieces, the Cartoon Capers Ceaco series has a separate numbering and runs from 2371-01 to 2371-15. So there are 15 puzzles of 550 pieces within this Cartoon Capers series. For the 'die-hard' puzzle collectors, the challenge is to obtain this entire series. This drawing is of course not unique, because 'The Zoo (or The Zoo)' has also appeared in other puzzles with different numbers of pieces. But Ceaco makes this puzzle unique and rarer and therefore more expensive.

Does a 1000 Piece puzzle consist of 1000 Pieces?

No, not always! This puzzle has appeared in a variant, where the puzzle box states that there are 1000 pieces in it. But in reality the puzzle itself does not consist of 1000 Pieces. Do you want to know exactly which Jan van Haasteren puzzles these are? Then view the overview 'Jan van Haasteren puzzles with a different number of puzzle pieces in the box'.

Laying the puzzle

I always do my puzzles on a puzzle mat or a puzzle folder. However, this time I forgot to take the beginning photos. So only a photo when I'm 90% done with the puzzle. The disadvantage is that if you do puzzles in the evening, the photos will not turn out nice. And often the photos are included. So this time only 1 progress photo:

and finally I finished the puzzle:

How long will it take you to complete this 1000 piece puzzle?

I completed the puzzle 'Artis Zoo' in peace and quiet and it took me several days to complete it. Beautifully made on a puzzle mat on the floor in the living room. I do record the time, but not very precisely, puzzling remains a hobby! But to give an idea of how long it took me to complete this JvH puzzle of 1000 pieces:

About Jumbo puzzles

Jumbo_Logo
Jumbo (not to be confused with our supermarket Jumbo!) makes toys, games and puzzles. Jumbo, for example, has made the very well-known games such as “Human don't get annoyed” and “Stratego” and “PimPamPet”. Games that have been around for generations and are still widely played by both young and old. Jumbo has been making and developing toys since about 1900. In the early years of the company, only toys from other countries were imported to the Netherlands. However, since about 1930 it was decided to also make their own toys, at the time manufacturing wooden toys, which was very popular at the time. Almost all toys in those years were made of wood. An important spearhead was that the toys made by Jumbo had to be of very good quality; it had to be as strong as an Elephant. An elephant had to stand on it! The red elephant has been the hallmark of Jumbo's games and puzzles for years. The name Jumbo and the red elephant together form the logo from about 1935. The Jumbo elephant is drawn by Mr. Möhr. He worked at an advertising agency and regularly signed for Hausemann & Hötte. Mr Möhr was at one point commissioned to design a beautiful new elephant logo for the Hausemann & Hötte toys. The logo has changed a bit since then. For example, the eye has grown over the years and has dropped slightly more, resulting in a friendlier elephant.

In the past, the elephant was not only used in the color red, but in all kinds of colors such as blue, yellow, black, white and green. All those colors were cozy and playful. For example, one time there was a yellow elephant on the box and the other time a red one. It was usually looked at which color best matched the color of the box. It was not until the end of the 60s that the red elephant was definitively chosen. Red is a color that stands out and attracts attention.

From 1945 Jumbo also started to focus on games made of cardboard. Jumbo has therefore been a guarantee for strong quality for years! Jumbo is a unique Dutch company with a rich history, with its head office in Zaandam. About 130 employees work for Jumbo. With a turnover of €75 million, Jumbo is a medium-sized European player in toys. Jumbo has sales offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. They export to more than 25 countries around the world.

In 1980 Jumbo starts the production of Jan van Haasteren Puzzles.
