More about this puzzle
I made the puzzle 'The Circus' or 'The Circus'. I made the rare Japanese variant (Issued by Beverly Enterprises) of this puzzle with the number 61-337. This one is drawn by Jan van Haasteren of the Jan van Haasteren studio.
This is the puzzle box:

That's this puzzle:

This puzzle has also been released in a very rare variant. This is a rare puzzle.

| Description | This puzzle 'The Circus' was published by Beverly Enterprises from Japan. At the bottom left of the box you can see the Jumbo logo and the name of Jan van Haasteren in very small print. This puzzle, "The Circus", is very rare and costs about €350 to €370. This puzzle is part of a set, together with the puzzle "Safari", also published by Beverly Enterprises (however, the 'Safari' is much rarer than 'The Circus'). The numbering also shows this: "The Circus" has number 61-337, while "Safari" has number 61-336. Beverly Enterprises has released more of these types of sets, such as 61-233 and 61-234, and 61-242 and 61-243 and also 65-163 and 65-164. These are all duplicate sets and very hard to find. It is special if you get them in your possession. The puzzle measures 72 by 49 cm, which is slightly larger than the standard Jumbo puzzle dimensions (68 by 49 cm). The box features a short biography in Japanese of Jan van Haasteren, born in 1936, who started out as a cartoonist and later switched to puzzle design. The puzzle number also provides specific information. The first "6" stands for the price code, the "1" means that it is a 1000 piece puzzle. There are also 500 piece puzzles published by Beverly Enterprises, where the numbering starts with "65". The "5" then stands for 500 pieces. The sides of the box contain interesting details, including the text "Beverly will create your enjoyable time". The Beverly Enterprises website address is also printed on it. The back of the box contains questions and answers and a list of other puzzles that Beverly Enterprises sells. It is interesting to note that in Japan many puzzles are glued, which is less common in the Netherlands. Finally, this puzzle has also been released in other sizes, such as 500, 1000, 3000 and 5000 pieces. At first I thought I had already completed this puzzle, but that appears not to be the case. There is also a puzzle called "Acrobat Circus", which is very similar, but different. |

| Description | A puzzle released to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the New Zealand puzzle brand Holdson Funny World (HFW). This company was founded in 1939 and is therefore celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2009. Therefore, this puzzle must also have been released in 2009. Besides puzzles, they also produce games and toys. This puzzle, "Circus Time," has also been released in several other variations, also published by puzzle manufacturers Beverly Enterprises (Japan) and Ceaco (USA). However, all other puzzles in this variation are called "The Circus," and this HFW variation is called "Circus Time." The "Circus" puzzle should not be confused with "Acrobat Circus," by the way. This is a fairly rare puzzle, which you'll have to search for on various secondhand puzzle websites somewhere in New Zealand and the surrounding area. Expect substantial shipping costs and a long delivery time! A unique piece, one that any collector will definitely want to own. Not special for the average puzzler, because they have already made this puzzle in the Jumbo version, for example. |

The Ceaco - Cartoon Capers 550 piece edition is a rare edition
This is a rare puzzle.

| Name Puzzle | Circus |
| Price | € 50 - € 70 |
| Number of Pieces | 550 Pieces |
| Number | 2371-7 |
| Year of Issue | 2010 |
| Issue by | Ceaco - Cartoon Capers |
| draftsman | Jan van Haasteren |
| Description | This is a rare puzzle and that is because this is a publication by the American puzzle manufacturer Ceaco. Within Ceaco you have various puzzle series and this is the edition that falls within the 'Cartoon Capers' series. Within the puzzles of 550 pieces, the Cartoon Capers Ceaco series has a separate numbering and runs from 2371-01 to 2371-15. So there are 15 puzzles of 550 pieces within this Cartoon Capers series. For the 'die-hard' puzzle collectors, the challenge is to obtain this entire series. This drawing is of course not unique, because 'Circus (or Circus)' has also appeared in other puzzles with different numbers of pieces. But Ceaco makes this puzzle unique and rarer and therefore more expensive. |

Laying the puzzle
It is very special to put this very rare puzzle together! Issued by Beverly Enterprises. And what beautiful quality puzzle pieces they were. Just a little more shine and just a little thicker it seemed. It lays fine, you can slide the puzzle pieces per block (sometimes it falls loose when you slide), but nothing wrong with that. I only took an intermediate photo of my progress once. Unfortunately only 1 photo, I put this together in the dark months with a puzzle lamp, and then taking a picture doesn't work. Of course, placed on my favorite puzzle mat:

and finally I finished the puzzle:

How long will it take you to complete this 1000 piece puzzle?
I did the puzzle 'The circus' in peace and quiet and it took me several days. Nicely done in a puzzle mat made on the floor in the living room. I do take the time, but not very precisely, puzzling remains a hobby! But to give an idea of how long it took me to do this JvH puzzle of 1000 pieces (I thought I would have done it faster, it seemed like an easy puzzle, but the following 'finish time' disappoints me):
- Explaining the pieces: 20 minutes
- Laying the edges = 25 minutes
- Laying the rest of the pieces = 5 hours and 50 minutes
- Which made me do this puzzle in total = 6 hours and 35 minutes. It used to take me almost always 8 hours, but I have a special tip to be able to puzzle a lot faster
About Jumbo puzzles

Jumbo (not to be confused with our supermarket Jumbo!) makes toys, games and puzzles. Jumbo, for example, has made the very well-known games such as “Human don't get annoyed” and “Stratego” and “PimPamPet”. Games that have been around for generations and are still widely played by both young and old. Jumbo has been making and developing toys since about 1900. In the early years of the company, only toys from other countries were imported to the Netherlands. However, since about 1930 it was decided to also make their own toys, at the time manufacturing wooden toys, which was very popular at the time. Almost all toys in those years were made of wood. An important spearhead was that the toys made by Jumbo had to be of very good quality; it had to be as strong as an Elephant. An elephant had to stand on it! The red elephant has been the hallmark of Jumbo's games and puzzles for years. The name Jumbo and the red elephant together form the logo from about 1935. The Jumbo elephant is drawn by Mr. Möhr. He worked at an advertising agency and regularly signed for Hausemann & Hötte. Mr Möhr was at one point commissioned to design a beautiful new elephant logo for the Hausemann & Hötte toys. The logo has changed a bit since then. For example, the eye has grown over the years and has dropped slightly more, resulting in a friendlier elephant.
In the past, the elephant was not only used in the color red, but in all kinds of colors such as blue, yellow, black, white and green. All those colors were cozy and playful. For example, one time there was a yellow elephant on the box and the other time a red one. It was usually looked at which color best matched the color of the box. It was not until the end of the 60s that the red elephant was definitively chosen. Red is a color that stands out and attracts attention.
From 1945 Jumbo also started to focus on games made of cardboard. Jumbo has therefore been a guarantee for strong quality for years! Jumbo is a unique Dutch company with a rich history, with its head office in Zaandam. About 130 employees work for Jumbo. With a turnover of €75 million, Jumbo is a medium-sized European player in toys. Jumbo has sales offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. They export to more than 25 countries around the world.
In 1980 Jumbo starts the production of Jan van Haasteren Puzzles.

I wrote the above review in January 2025. Very special to make the very rare Beverly Enterprises puzzle from Japan of this one. And what fun it was, not so long ago I made 'Acrobats Circus' and those two look very much alike.
