Why are there two counts?
It seems like a simple question, but there are two things that make it more complicated.
– First of all, several illustrators work within the Jan van Haasteren Studio. Jan van Haasteren draws himself, but Rob Derks, Dick Heins, Wilma van Den Bosch, and Mars Gremmen also create puzzles for the studio. Marco Eisinga used to do that as well – and since January 2026, he has been doing that againAll those puzzles appear under the name Jan van Haasteren, but they are not all drawn by Jan van Haasteren himself.
– Secondly, the same drawing sometimes appears in multiple boxes. A drawing can be released as a standalone 1000-piece puzzle, but also in a 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 combination box. That drawing has only been made once, but counts towards multiple boxes. Depending on how you count, you get a different number.
