The story of the 2026 Advent Calendar

The Jan van Haasteren Advent Calendar of 2026 also has its own story again. This time, everything revolves around the preparations for Christmas. The members of the well-known Jan van Haasteren family They are hard at work getting everything ready on time. The Christmas market stalls are being set up, the nativity scene needs to be prepared, and meanwhile, they are hoping for a good amount of snow. That might sound like a cozy and fairly normal preparation for Christmas, but naturally, things never stay quiet for long at the Jan van Haasteren family's. The initially innocent Christmas hustle and bustle quickly turns into the familiar Jan van Haasteren chaos, complete with misunderstandings, chases, and unexpected encounters. By solving one of the 24 puzzles every day, you discover the next part of this Christmas story.

The text on the back of the box

On the back of the Jan van Haasteren Advent Calendar 2026 is the following description:

With Christmas just around the corner, the Jan van Haasteren family members get to work on festive preparations! The stalls for the Christmas market are being set up, the nativity scene is being prepared, and everyone is hoping for snow! What starts as innocent Christmas hustle and bustle soon escalates into a tangle of misunderstandings, chases, and unexpected encounters. Solve a puzzle every day and discover how the story unfolds over 24 days.

This also makes it clear that the 24 puzzles are not simply 24 separate Christmas images. Together, the puzzles tell a story that unfolds further and further throughout the Advent period.

24 puzzles of 54 pieces

The Advent Calendar contains 24 small puzzles, each with 54 pieces. Each individual puzzle measures approximately 16,5 cm wide and 11,5 cm high. These are small puzzles that you can normally complete quite quickly. And that is, of course, exactly the point of a puzzle advent calendar: you don't have to puzzle for hours every evening, but can create a new scene just daily. If you start promptly on December 1st and stick to one puzzle per day, your puzzle month will look like this:

  • December 1: puzzle 1
  • December 2: puzzle 2
  • December 3: puzzle 3
  • and so on
  • December 23: puzzle 23
  • December 24: the last puzzle

On Christmas Eve, you will have completed all 24 puzzles and 1.296 pieces, and you will know how the story ends. The big question for avid Jan van Haasteren puzzlers is, of course, whether they can actually wait 24 hours each time before opening the next square.
