Jan van Haasteren Puzzle 'Camping in the Woods'

I made the puzzle 'Kamperen in het Bos' (Camping in the Forest) in the Holdson variant - this is number 77495, issue in 2022. This puzzle is drawn by Jan van Haasteren Studio Jan van Haasteren. It's this puzzle:

This puzzle is still published by Holdson (HFW) with number 77495 and I made a video of it:

What is the quality of the puzzle pieces?

I made a video about this, think the quality is less than that of Jumbo. Why?
– I had bought the puzzle new in New Zealand, at Holdson. Many puzzle pieces were still connected. I had to tear these apart myself. That doesn't always go well. Pieces don't break, but sometimes pieces of cardboard get stuck to a piece. You never tear off neatly.
– the puzzle pieces do not stick together properly, so you cannot easily move blocks with multiple puzzle pieces. then the block falls apart
– sometimes it seems that the pieces don't fit together. But that's not true. Doesn't always connect well.
My video on this:

Review video and Recurring elements

I made a review video including all recurring elements that Jan van Haasteren drew in this puzzle:

Laying the puzzle

I always do the puzzles on a puzzle mat, usually in the living room. It is a very nice camping puzzle with many recognizable things when you camp yourself. For example, walking around with a toilet roll. Or the Barbeque or the camping tables and chairs. You really feel like a summer vacation! I've sorted the straight bits here:

After laying out the puzzle pieces I put the edges of the puzzle:

And as you can see I mainly puzzle by color; I look for puzzle pieces of the same color together and then you soon come to the tents that are on the campsite in the different colors:

As you can see, I have already placed the second light yellow tent here, which was more difficult, because there were two light yellow tents. Can you almost see the self-portrait of Jan van Haasteren at the bottom right – in the canoe? And you also see a fixed recurring element, namely the boy scouts in the top left of the puzzle:

It wasn't a very difficult puzzle but it was a lot of fun and there are a lot of fixed recurring elements and funny elements. The trickiest part is the dirt track that crosses the campsite – I saved that for last:

and finally finish the puzzle – great fun!

How long will it take you to complete this 1000 piece puzzle?

I made the puzzle 'Camping in the Forest' in peace and it also took me several days. Beautiful on a puzzle mat made on the floor in the living room. I do take the time, but not very precisely, it remains a hobby that puzzling! But to give you an idea how long it took me to complete this JvH puzzle of 1000 pieces:

  • Explaining the pieces: 25 minutes
  • Laying the edges = 25 minutes
  • Laying the rest of the pieces = 5 hours and 45 minutes
  • So it took me a total of 6 hours and 20 minutes to complete this puzzle. That is faster than it takes me on average over a JvH jigsaw puzzle, namely about 8 hours

Fun summer vacation puzzle

I wrote the above review. The puzzle made in March 2023. What a fun and cheerful holiday puzzle. With many recognizable elements in it when you go camping yourself. A really good recognizable Jvh puzzle I would say. An extra challenge are the special puzzle pieces in terms of shape of Holdson, that is really a bit different puzzling. Had a lot of fun!
