Details about the puzzle - release by Ceaco

I made the USA version of 1000 pieces and then the issue by Ceaco, the company that publishes the Jan van Haasteren puzzles in America. Number 3342-16. This is a different puzzle in several ways, namely:
- the box.
The box is square (20 centimeters x 20 centimeters) and is much higher, namely 8 centimeters.
NOTE: in the video I read the dimensions in feet, there I mention 8 x 8 feet and 4 feet high.
– the puzzle pieces
The puzzle pieces are really much thinner and have different shapes. See the video below for an example.
I collected all the items in the video below:
NOTE: in the video I read the dimensions in feet, there I mention 8 x 8 feet and 4 feet high. So this must be 20×20 centimeters and 8 centimeters high!

Ceaco puzzles - no poster included!

This is really a loss! With the 1000 piece puzzles from Jumbo there is also no poster in the puzzle box, but the puzzle box is so large that you can use the image on the box as an example. But with the Ceaco puzzles, that image is very small! I have some tips on how to get a poster for a Jan van Haasteren puzzle.

Ceaco puzzles - a piece of paper from team 114 of the Quality Department!

Very nice to see, this paper was in the box with the puzzle pieces:
rsz_jan_van_haasteren_papier_van_quality_department_usa_puzzle_1000_stuks
If you look closely, you will see qc@edaron.com next to the email address, so if you are dissatisfied, you can send a message. Well, I could have done that. Because if you watch one of my videos on this page, you will see that the puzzle at the bottom is not neatly cut out. There is a very white border at the bottom of all the straight pieces of the puzzle. I've never seen that at Jumbo. Have to say, I have another Ceaco puzzle and it also contains the exact same piece of paper, that puzzle was also made by team 114.....

Ceaco puzzles - the shape of the puzzle pieces is different

The puzzle pieces are really very different from what we are used to in the Netherlands. they have very different shapes and they are also very thin. They are therefore also much lighter than the Dutch puzzle pieces from Jumbo.

If you want an example of two puzzle pieces that you really put together differently than the regular Jumbo Dutch puzzle pieces, you can see that with these two:

I have made a separate page where you can read more about the Jan van Haasteren Ceaco puzzles.

Also published as a Formido edition

This puzzle was also released in a special Formido edition (box number 81170, 2012 issue)Formido was a Dutch DIY store chain that commissioned Jumbo to produce a number of Jan van Haasteren puzzles exclusively for their stores. At the time, you could only buy this version at Formido – not in a regular toy store or online shop. Do you recognize a Formido edition? That is harder than you think. The box looks the same as the regular version – the only difference is the box number, which starts with an 8. Want to know more about these special Formido store editions? Issue by Ceaco - Perfect Piece Count (Custom Puzzle Program)
draftsman Jan van Haasteren
DescriptionCeaco was founded in 1974 and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2017. Ceaco is celebrating this with various fun promotions. One of the programs they offered in 2017 is the "Custom Puzzle Program." During this program, people could have their own puzzle made with 300, 550, 750, 1000, or 1500 pieces. They could then choose their own puzzle, which was then presented in beautiful gift packaging. This puzzle by Jan van Haasteren is part of the "Custom Puzzle Program." This is a very special puzzle by Jan van Haasteren: the 550-piece USA puzzle by Ceaco (an American puzzle manufacturer). The artist is, of course, Jan van Haasteren himself. I've done this puzzle before in the 1000-piece version, and I can honestly say that this is almost the most impressive masterpiece Jan van Haasteren ever drew. There are over 50 well-known American elements, all of which you can find in this puzzle. Truly fantastic to see; I'd never seen anything like it before. The puzzle comes in a special gift box. It's a puzzle that you could have made through Ceaco's Custom Puzzle Program at the time. On the front of the box, you can see: Perfect Piece CountThat's the "official" name, and it fell within Ceaco's campaign or program called the "Custom Puzzle Program." You could choose whether you wanted a puzzle with 300, 550, 750, 1000, or even 1500 pieces. This version is the 1500-piece version. The side of the box bears the edition number 50021, which corresponds to this special edition. This number, item #50021, is printed on the side of the box. The first three digits indicate the number of pieces:
100: 300 pieces
200: 550 pieces
300: 750 pieces
400: 1000 pieces
500: 1500 pieces
The last two digits are the design number. The highest number known so far (February 2026) is No. 25. So there are already at least 25 different puzzles in the 'Perfect Piece Count' series. The number on the side of this puzzle is item#50021: 500 stands for 1500 pieces and 21 is the design number for 'USA' by Jan van Haasteren. You can also still see the Jumbo logo on the box. On the back of the box are the familiar Ceaco markings that you also see on other boxes, including “Made in the USA” and some well-known Ceaco symbols. This puzzle is truly a collector's item. Incidentally, this is not the only 1500-piece Ceaco puzzle by Jan van Haasteren, but there are only three Jan van Haasteren puzzles within the Ceaco Custom Puzzle Program (Perfect Piece Count). In total, there are 6 Jan van Haasteren 1500-piece puzzles from Ceaco. This USA puzzle has also been released in other numbers of puzzle pieces, for example the one with 1000 piecesThis was truly a tremendous tour de force by Jan van Haasteren – just read the wonderful story behind the USA puzzle! In the images above, you can see that a second Jan van Haasteren puzzle was released within the 'Perfect Piece Count' series, namely also USA in 550 pieces with the number 20021. Additionally, you see the third Jan van Haasteren within Perfect Piece Count: USA in 300 pieces with the number 10021.

Within Ceaco you have various puzzle series and this is the edition that falls within the 'Crowd Pleasers' series. Within the 1000 piece puzzles, the Crowd Pleasers Ceaco's series has a unique numbering system, running from 3342-01 to 3342-24. That's 24 puzzles. DescriptionThis puzzle is part of a set of four puzzles published by the New Zealand puzzle manufacturer Holdson Funny World (HFW)This puzzle is numbered 08126, as are three other puzzles in this set. For more information about this entire set, please visit the "Holdson's Funny World puzzles 08126This puzzle is rare because all of them were released in New Zealand. It's also more of a collector's item, as all the plates/drawings from these puzzles were also released in a Jumbo version in the Netherlands. There's a set of older puzzles published by Holdson Funny World—and these boxes all look different from the current, recognizable blue Jumbo puzzle boxes. Many of these boxes have multiple bright colors. A total of 48 of these older puzzles were published by Holdson Funny World (HFW), and these are therefore the rarer ones. You hardly ever see these puzzles on marketplaces like Marktplaats. You really have to look on second-hand puzzle trading platforms near New Zealand and Australia. The downside: if you want to buy one, you have to pay a lot of import duties, and the puzzle often takes a long time to arrive. To this day, Jan van Haasteren puzzles are still published in the familiar blue puzzle box. These puzzles in the familiar blue boxes are NOT rare; you can easily order them from an online store in New Zealand. This puzzle, "USA," numbered 08126, is rare. However, the design isn't, as "USA" has also been released by other brands, such as Jumbo. Its release by HFW makes it rare and often a collector's item. It comes in a beautiful, colorful box with these four colors on the four sides: blue, green, red, and pink. The back of the box shows which four puzzles belong to the "set" numbered 08126.

What exactly is the Space Needle? From Wikipedia:
“The Space Needle is a tower in the city of Seattle in the US state of Washington. The tower is the symbol of Seattle. It was placed in the Seattle Center on the occasion of the 1962 World's Fair. Nearly 20.000 visitors came daily during the World's Fair. During the entire year 1962, more than two million people came to enjoy the view. The Space Needle is 184 m high, 42 m wide at its widest point and weighs 8660 tons. When the Space Needle was completed, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. It is built to withstand winds of up to 320 km/h and earthquakes of up to 9,5 on the Richter Scale. There are 25 lightning rods on the roof to protect the building and its visitors. The Space Needle includes a souvenir shop, a restaurant at 152 m and an observation platform at 160 m. From the top you have a good view of not only downtown Seattle but also the Olympic Mountains, the Cascade Range, Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, Elliott Bay and the surrounding islands. In photographs of the Seattle skyline, the Space Needle often occupies a prominent position, often appearing to rise above the skyscrapers. This is mainly due to the fact that the Space Needle is about 1,3 km from the center and is often photographed in the foreground, making the tower appear larger than it actually is. Visitors can reach the observation platform via an elevator. It takes 43 seconds to get to the top with the elevator going 16 km/h. During busy times, the queue for the elevator can be more than an hour. On April 19, 1999, the Space Needle was designated a “Historic Landmark,” similar to a monument.”

It is known to the Klickitat Indians as 'Louwala-Clough', which means "smoking mountain or fire mountain". What is Charcoal Kilns Challis – the ovens?
The Birch Creek Charcoal Ovens are a group of beehive-shaped charcoal ovens near Leadore, Idaho, built in 1886. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The furnaces were built in 1886 to produce charcoal for the Nicholia smelter, which smelted lead and silver ore from the Viola Mine, about 16 miles (1881 km) east of the furnaces. The Viola ore deposit was discovered in 1888 and was mined until 3, when the ore was depleted and the price of lead had fallen. The Nicholia smelter, about 40 miles west of the mines, had two blast furnaces, each with a daily capacity of 36 short tons (16 t) of ore. A man from Butte, Montana named Warren King built 20 brick ovens made from local clay, possibly obtained from Jump Creek on the east side of the Birch Creek valley. The beehive-shaped ovens are each about 6,1 feet (20 m) tall and 6,1 feet (30 m) in diameter. During operation, each kiln used 40 to 1.500 cords of Douglas fir per load, producing approximately 2.000 to 70 bushels (150 cubic meters) of charcoal over a two-day burn. The furnace operation lasted less than three years, employed 200 to 44.000 people at its peak, and had a monthly output estimated at 50.000 to 1550 bushels (1762 to 1972 cubic meters) of charcoal. The ruins of four ovens have been preserved. They are located in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, which operates the site as a public interpretive site. Nicholia is now a ghost town and only a few ruins remain. There are no surviving remains of the town of Woodland, a short distance south of the kilns, where the kiln workers lived. The furnaces were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 6. The listing included four contributing structures on 2,4 acres (1987 ha). In 2000, a volunteer-assisted stabilization effort prevented one of the furnaces from collapsing. Staatsbosbeheer carried out a restoration of the ovens in XNUMX.

What is the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill?
Founded in 1889 by Thomas Lister Kay, the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill was one of several textile mills operating in the valley. These textile mills were crucial components in Oregon's economic stability. The Mill has been producing fine woolen blankets and fabrics for over seventy years and has been managed by four generations of the Kay family – a legacy that is still preserved today by the world famous Pendleton Woolen Mills, owned and operated by Kay's descendants. The Mill closed in 1962 and was subsequently purchased by the Mission Mill Museum Association, a private non-profit organization founded in 1964. It is the only wool mill museum west of Missouri and has one of the few water-powered turbines in the Pacific Northwest that is still capable of generating electricity from the mill race. Displays of the original 19th and 20th century machines illustrate industrial wool processing, and images inside the mill capture the stories of the lives of the individuals and families who have worked at the mill since its inception.

The landmark you see here with the red train is an example of a train from the famous cable car system in San Francisco. From Wikipedia about this:
“The San Francisco cable car system is the world's last manually operated cable car system and an icon of the city of San Francisco. The system is part of the intermodal urban transit network operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway, which also includes the separate E Embarcadero and F Market & Wharves streetcar lines, and the modern Muni Metro light rail system. Of the 23 funicular lines built between 1873 and 1890, only three remain (one of which combines parts of two earlier lines): two routes from downtown near Union Square to Fisherman's Wharf, and a third route along California Street. While the cable cars are used by commuters to some extent, the vast majority of the millions of passengers using the system each year are tourists, and as a result the wait time to board can often be two hours or more. They are among the top tourist attractions in the city, along with Alcatraz Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Fisherman's Wharf. The San Francisco Cable Cars are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and have been designated a National Historic Landmark.”

“The Transamerica Pyramid (Transamerica Pyramid) is a skyscraper in San Francisco . Until 2017, it was the city's tallest piston. In that year, the Transamerica Pyramid was picked up by the Salesforce Tower. The building was designed by William Pereira. The pyramid is built on the site of the historic Montgomery Block located at 600 Montgomery Street. It is 260 meters high and consists of 48 floors. The building has eighteen elevators, two of which reach the top of the tower, and 3678 windows. The total floor area of the tower is 49.238 m². Construction began in 1969 and was completed in 1972. The contractor for this structure is Dinwiddie Construction Co. Although the building is no longer the headquarters of the Transamerica Corporation, it is still strongly associated with this company. More than 1500 employees work in the building, at more than 50 companies. The building has become one of the symbols of San Francisco. The shape of the building is chosen to hinder the light from the street as little as possible. The wings that protrude on either side begin on the 29th floor. In the partial wing, which houses the elevator shafts, and in the partial wing, which houses the stairwell and ventilation shafts. The wings were necessary because elevators at the time could not go up at an angle. The Transamerica Pyramid was the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi from 1972 to 1974. In that year, the building was surpassed by the Aon Center in Los Angeles, which was designed by William Pereira's former partner, Charles Luckman. When the Dutch insurance group AEGON took over the Transamerica Corporation in 1999, it automatically became the owner of the Transamerica Pyramid.”

9.Hollywood

Place of interestCityStateAddressWebsite
HollywoodLos AngelesCalifornië Google Maps Website

What is Hollywood? From Wikipedia:
Hollywood is a borough of Los Angeles in the United States. It was founded in 1857 as an independent city northwest of downtown Los Angeles. It is best known as a movie city and historical center of the American film industry due to the presence of all its studios, related companies and movie stars. Hollywood is often used synonymously with the American film industry, although much of the activity has moved to surrounding areas such as West Los Angeles, San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valley. However, many secondary film industry businesses, including editing, effects, post-production, and lighting, have remained in Hollywood. A nickname for Hollywood is Tinseltown. Hollywood became an official self-governing city on November 14, 1903. The vote at that time was 88 for inclusion and 77 against. In 1910, due to an ongoing struggle to obtain an adequate water supply, it was decided by city officials that Hollywood would merge as a borough of the City of Los Angeles. This was a logical consequence since this growing city had meanwhile built the Los Angeles Aqueduct and water system, using the Owens River in the Owens Valley. Another advantage was that Hollywood could be connected to the Los Angeles sewage system. Since the city was merged into Los Angeles as a ward, Hollywood no longer has its own governing body. For a time there has been an informal Hollywood Mayor of Hollywood appointed by the local Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Johnny Grant held this position from 1980 until his death on January 9, 2008[1][source?], but the position has not been filled since. With the annexation, the names and numbers of the streets were changed to the form as we know them today. For example, Prospect Avenue was changed to Hollywood Boulevard and all numbers of that district were changed. 100 Prospect Avenue at Vermont Avenue was changed to 6400 Hollywood Boulevard, and 100 Cahuenga Boulevard at Hollywood Boulevard was changed to 1700 Cahuenga Boulevard. Hollywood in a broad sense also includes adjacent neighborhoods such as Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Hollywood Hills, although these are not officially part of the Hollywood borough. An attempt to once again make Hollywood a self-governing city was rejected by a large majority in November 2002. A notable fact was that on January 30, 1904, Hollywood voters voted to ban liquor from the city, except when sold for medicinal purposes. The vote was 113 in favor and 96 against. Neither hotels nor restaurants were allowed to serve wine or spirits before or after meals. As a term, Hollywood is also used to refer to the film industry in and around Hollywood. The first studio was founded in 1911 by David Horsley of the Nestor Company. In the same year, 15 independent studios were established there. Film production companies moved to Hollywood because of the good weather and longer days. In the early days of film, strong artificial lighting was not yet possible; the only light source that provided adequate exposure for the film was the sun. Until then, New York had been the capital of film production.”

What is the meaning of this Steam Locomotive? From Wikipedia:
The Jupiter (officially known as Central Pacific Railroad #60) was a 4-4-0 steam locomotive owned by the Central Pacific Railroad. It made history when it joined the Union Pacific No. 119 at Promontory Summit, Utah, during the Golden Spike ceremony commemorating the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in 1869. The Jupiter was built in September 1868 by the Schenectady Locomotive Works of New York along with four other engines of identical specification , numbered 61, 62, 63, and 84, named the Storm, Whirlwind, and Leviathan and Gazelle, respectively. These were then dismantled and sailed to San Francisco, California, loaded onto a river barge and sent to Central Pacific headquarters in Sacramento. After reassembly they were put into service on March 20, 1869.”

“Monument Valley is an area in the United States, on the border between the states of Utah and Arizona, known for its unique rock formations. It is located on the Colorado Plateau 100 km west of Four Corners, the point where the states of Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico meet. Monument Valley is part of the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park of the Navajo Indians, and is accessible via US Route 163.

Movies shot here include the 1939 John Ford-directed film Stagecoach starring John Wayne, Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West, and Clint Eastwood's The Eiger Sanction. Ford would go on to make nine other films in the area. Back to the Future III was also partly recorded here. Monument Valley has also appeared in television films and series, advertising campaigns and travel brochures as the symbol of the West. Goulding, founded as a trading post in 1923, is the only town of significance. This is where the Monument Valley Tribal Park Visitor Center is housed. It is managed by the Navajo tribe.”

What is the Crazy Horse? From Wikipedia:
“The Crazy Horse Memorial is a monument carved into the granite of the Black Hills of South Dakota since 1948, honoring the 19th-century Lakota leader Crazy Horse. When finished, it will depict Crazy Horse riding a galloping horse. The statue will be 195 meters long and 172 meters high. The construction is financed by donations. aIn 1939, the sculptor Korczak Ziółkowski was approached by Sioux leader Henry Standing Bear to make a design. Ziółkowski had already contributed to the construction of Mount Rushmore. The construction of the monument started in 1948. The face of Crazy Horse was finished in 1998. It is not clear when the statue will be finished. A march to the statue is held every year. There are also explosions where the public is invited to watch part of the rocks being blown away. There is also criticism of the project from the Sioux community. Crazy Horse would never have wanted to be photographed or depicted in this way. It would therefore not be appropriate to make a sculpture of him.
Is it worth to see Crazy Horse Monument?
The show is great and gives a history of the Native Americans, well worth seeing if you are in the area and visiting Crazy Horse. At a certain point you can see exactly what the monument will look like when it is finished.”

What is Mount Rushmore? According to Wikipedia:
“Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a national monument centered on a colossal sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills near Keystone, South Dakota, United States. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum created the sculpture's design and oversaw the project's execution from 1927 to 1941 with the help of his son, Lincoln Borglum. The sculpture depicts the 60-foot-tall (18 m) heads of four U.S. presidents recommended by Borglum: George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865) . The four presidents were chosen to represent the birth, growth, development and preservation of the nation respectively. The memorial park covers 1.278 acres (2.00 sq mi; 5.17 km 2 ) and the mountain itself has an elevation of 5.725 feet (1.745 m) above sea level. The sculptor and representatives of the tribes settled on Mount Rushmore, which also has the advantage of facing southeast for maximum sun exposure. Doane Robinson wanted it to feature American West heroes such as Lewis and Clark, their expedition guide Sacagawea, Oglala Lakota chief Red Cloud, Buffalo Bill Cody, and Oglala Lakota chief Crazy Horse. Borglum believed that the image should have wider appeal and chose the four presidents. Peter Norbeck, U.S. Senator from South Dakota, sponsored the project and secured federal funding. Construction began in 1927 and the faces of the presidents were completed between 1934 and 1939. After Gutzon Borglum died in March 1941, his son Lincoln took over as leader of the construction project. Each president was originally supposed to be depicted head to toe, but lack of funding forced construction to end on October 31, 1941. Sometimes referred to as the "Shrine of Democracy," Mount Rushmore attracts more than two million visitors each year. ”

About Jumbo puzzles

Jumbo_Logo
Jumbo (not to be confused with our supermarket Jumbo!) makes toys, games and puzzles. Jumbo, for example, has made the very well-known games such as “Human don't get annoyed” and “Stratego” and “PimPamPet”. Games that have been around for generations and are still widely played by both young and old. Jumbo has been making and developing toys since about 1900. In the early years of the company, only toys from other countries were imported to the Netherlands. However, since about 1930 it was decided to also make their own toys, at the time manufacturing wooden toys, which was very popular at the time. Almost all toys in those years were made of wood. An important spearhead was that the toys made by Jumbo had to be of very good quality; it had to be as strong as an Elephant. An elephant had to stand on it! The red elephant has been the hallmark of Jumbo's games and puzzles for years. The name Jumbo and the red elephant together form the logo from about 1935. The Jumbo elephant is drawn by Mr. Möhr. He worked at an advertising agency and regularly signed for Hausemann & Hötte. Mr Möhr was at one point commissioned to design a beautiful new elephant logo for the Hausemann & Hötte toys. The logo has changed a bit since then. For example, the eye has grown over the years and has dropped slightly more, resulting in a friendlier elephant.

In the past, the elephant was not only used in the color red, but in all kinds of colors such as blue, yellow, black, white and green. All those colors were cozy and playful. For example, one time there was a yellow elephant on the box and the other time a red one. It was usually looked at which color best matched the color of the box. It was not until the end of the 60s that the red elephant was definitively chosen. Red is a color that stands out and attracts attention.

From 1945 Jumbo also started to focus on games made of cardboard. Jumbo has therefore been a guarantee for strong quality for years! Jumbo is a unique Dutch company with a rich history, with its head office in Zaandam. About 130 employees work for Jumbo. With a turnover of €75 million, Jumbo is a medium-sized European player in toys. Jumbo has sales offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. They export to more than 25 countries around the world.

In 1980 Jumbo starts the production of Jan van Haasteren Puzzles.

The best!

I wrote the above review in October 2022. I made the USA puzzle in the Ceaco variant. Very special I must say. But when I found out that Jan has incorporated no fewer than 42 sights in America into the puzzle, my admiration increased a lot. What a masterpiece! As far as I'm concerned, the best and most beautiful puzzle drawn and made by Jan van Haasteren

Lauwers Willy - Indeed a beautiful puzzle (I made the version with nr 81170). Not really difficult but very nice to put together.
