Jan van Haasteren Puzzle 'Football Championships'
I made the 'Football Championships' puzzle - this is number 61-233. I made the Japanese version of this puzzle. The original number is 00030. The puzzles are the same for both numbers, but the box is different for the Japanese version. The Japanese version is this puzzle:

and this is the box:

| Description | This is certainly a rare puzzle because it is published by the Japanese puzzle manufacturer Beverly Enterprises (BE). I was also able to purchase this puzzle from a Japanese website. You do pay various costs, including transport costs and import costs. However, this puzzle is virtually unavailable in the Netherlands and is therefore truly a collector's item. There is also something special about the numbering of the Beverly Enterprise puzzle. This number is 61-233, where the '233' represents the number of the puzzle and the '6' represents the price code of the Beverly Enterprises puzzles. All puzzles that start with a '6' have the same price. The '1' indicates the number of pieces, where 1 stands for 1000 pieces. If you buy this puzzle you also have a few weeks delivery time. To date, it is known that 8 puzzles were published by Beverly Enterprises in Japan of 1000 pieces, but it is suspected that there were many more. These are so rare that it is almost impossible to trace them. The contents of the box are also different, you will find 'a postcard', a 'fan service coupon' and a 'bag with puzzle glue and sponge'. The puzzle pieces also have different shapes. In my opinion, the puzzle pieces are also slightly thicker and therefore heavier than the regular Jumbo puzzle pieces; they are also smoother - beautiful puzzle pieces I must say! This puzzle is exactly the same as the 'Football Championships' puzzle, number 00030, published by Jumbo. Only the box is different. This is not an item for the regular puzzler, but it is for collectors! This puzzle with exactly the same image is also published by Jumbo, Ceaco and Holdson Funny World (HFW). The Jumbbo variant was released in 2000, so this puzzle was at least released after the year 2000 - but the year of release by Beverly Enterprises is unknown. The dimensions of this puzzle are 72x49 centimeters, while the dimensions of a regular puzzle from Jumbo are 68x49 centimeters. Although this is a very rare puzzle, this is not an item for every collector. The price of this puzzle is not very high, but it is certainly worth more than normal. So it is special, it does not mean that a very rare puzzle is always automatically worth a lot. It depends on whether there is a demand for it among collectors. |

| Description | This puzzle is part of a set of four puzzles published by the New Zealand puzzle manufacturer Holdson Funny World (HFW)This puzzle is numbered 08745, as are three other puzzles in this set. For more information about this entire set, please visit the "Holdson Funny World puzzles 08745This puzzle is rare because all of them were released in New Zealand. It's also more of a collector's item, as all the plates/drawings from these puzzles were also released in a Jumbo version in the Netherlands. There's a set of older puzzles published by Holdson Funny World—and these boxes all look different from the current, recognizable blue Jumbo puzzle boxes. Many of these boxes have multiple bright colors. A total of 48 of these older puzzles were published by Holdson Funny World (HFW), and these are therefore the rarer ones. You hardly ever see these puzzles on marketplaces like Marktplaats. You really have to look on second-hand puzzle trading platforms near New Zealand and Australia. The downside: if you want to buy one, you have to pay a lot of import duties, and the puzzle often takes a long time to arrive. To this day, Jan van Haasteren puzzles are still published in the familiar blue puzzle box. These puzzles in the familiar blue boxes are NOT rare; you can easily order them from an online store in New Zealand. This puzzle, "Championship Football," number 08745, is rare. However, the illustration isn't, as "Championship Football" was also released by other brands, such as Jumbo and Ceaco. Its release by HFW makes it rare and often an instant collector's item. It comes in a beautiful, colorful box with these four colors on the four sides: blue, green, red, and pink. The back of the box shows which four puzzles belong to the "set" numbered 08745. |

Laying this puzzle
I always do all the puzzles on a puzzle mat, and as you can see I sort the straight edges out.

Then I started with the flags of the countries and the people in the stands. They are beautiful and smooth puzzle pieces. Everything that happens on the football field is more difficult, so I'll save that for last:

The dugout and police officers have also been laid. Now I had to start with all the football players walking on the field, especially the football players with the same football shirts are difficult to distinguish, but it is a very fun puzzle to make:

and finally I finished the puzzle:

Review video of this puzzle
I made a review video with nice items and fixed recurring elements:
How long will it take you to complete this 1000 piece puzzle?
I completed the 'Championship Football' puzzle in peace and quiet and it took me several days to complete it. Beautifully made on a puzzle mat on the floor in the living room. I do record the time, but not very precisely, puzzling remains a hobby! But to give an idea of how long it took me to complete this JvH puzzle of 1000 pieces:
- Explaining the pieces: 20 minutes
- Laying the edges = 25 minutes
- Laying the rest of the pieces = 4 hours and 50 minutes
- Which made me do this puzzle in total = 5 hours and 25 minutes. It used to take me almost always 8 hours, but I have a special tip to be able to puzzle a lot faster
About Jumbo puzzles

Jumbo (not to be confused with our supermarket Jumbo!) makes toys, games and puzzles. Jumbo, for example, has made the very well-known games such as “Human don't get annoyed” and “Stratego” and “PimPamPet”. Games that have been around for generations and are still widely played by both young and old. Jumbo has been making and developing toys since about 1900. In the early years of the company, only toys from other countries were imported to the Netherlands. However, since about 1930 it was decided to also make their own toys, at the time manufacturing wooden toys, which was very popular at the time. Almost all toys in those years were made of wood. An important spearhead was that the toys made by Jumbo had to be of very good quality; it had to be as strong as an Elephant. An elephant had to stand on it! The red elephant has been the hallmark of Jumbo's games and puzzles for years. The name Jumbo and the red elephant together form the logo from about 1935. The Jumbo elephant is drawn by Mr. Möhr. He worked at an advertising agency and regularly signed for Hausemann & Hötte. Mr Möhr was at one point commissioned to design a beautiful new elephant logo for the Hausemann & Hötte toys. The logo has changed a bit since then. For example, the eye has grown over the years and has dropped slightly more, resulting in a friendlier elephant.
In the past, the elephant was not only used in the color red, but in all kinds of colors such as blue, yellow, black, white and green. All those colors were cozy and playful. For example, one time there was a yellow elephant on the box and the other time a red one. It was usually looked at which color best matched the color of the box. It was not until the end of the 60s that the red elephant was definitively chosen. Red is a color that stands out and attracts attention.
From 1945 Jumbo also started to focus on games made of cardboard. Jumbo has therefore been a guarantee for strong quality for years! Jumbo is a unique Dutch company with a rich history, with its head office in Zaandam. About 130 employees work for Jumbo. With a turnover of €75 million, Jumbo is a medium-sized European player in toys. Jumbo has sales offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. They export to more than 25 countries around the world.
In 1980 Jumbo starts the production of Jan van Haasteren Puzzles.
