Wasgij Rare – what puzzles are these?
I have made an overview of the Wasgij puzzles that I think are rare. How did the list below come about? Purely from my own experience! I regularly buy and sell rare puzzles from the list below on Marktplaats or via Facebook marketplace or via Ebay or other foreign trading platforms. What the purchase and sales prices are, I have kept an eye on (and experienced myself!) and based on that the list below came about. I have been making Wasgij puzzles for a number of years and have noticed that some puzzles are rare for one reason or another. It is not clear to me why some puzzles are rare. Because that simply means that not many of them have been put into circulation.
When is a puzzle rare?
A puzzle is rare if there are few of them in circulation and if it is difficult to get. I hereby but agree with the definition of rare = “Relatively few in number. Rare is having a small distribution or being present in small numbers within a certain area.”
Oh yes, by the way, often quite a bit is paid for a rare puzzle. Collectors in particular will do a lot to get their hands on that one missing Wasgij puzzle. For the 'ordinary' puzzler this is of course different, who may not be willing to pay 50-80 euros for a 16-piece puzzle. So the value that a puzzle can have is different for everyone. One puzzler is only willing to pay 10 euros for it, while another puzzler may be prepared to pay 80 euros for the same puzzle! Furthermore, the list below is not a ranking list. It does not mean that the top puzzle is the rarest or the bottom one. It is a random list. Do you have an addition to this list? Then email me!
Just how expensive are these rare puzzles?
It is of course interesting to know how much more expensive these puzzles are than normal puzzles. I have made a table with recommended prices of rare puzzles by number of pieces if you buy them second-hand. You can roughly assume 0,01 eurocent per puzzle piece for a not-rare puzzle. You will then get the following table:
