Wasgij puzzles published by Ravensburger
Nowadays, we primarily know Wasgij as the puzzle brand of Jumbo. However, various Wasgij puzzles have also been released by Ravensburger. These Ravensburger editions are of particular interest to collectors. The well-known Wasgij images are packaged in a clearly recognizable Ravensburger box and have their own Ravensburger box numbers. On this page, you will find an overview of all Wasgij Ravensburger puzzles known to me. These are 500 and 1000-piece puzzles, including editions from the famous Wasgij Original, Mystery, and Destiny series. At the moment, I have 22 different Ravensburger editions listed in my overview. Do you have a Wasgij Ravensburger puzzle that is not included here? Then I would, of course, love to hear about it.
What are Wasgij Ravensburger puzzles?
When you think of Wasgij, you probably immediately think of Jumbo. However, Ravensburger has also released Wasgij puzzles. The Wasgij concept was simply retained in these releases. So, you don't just assemble the image you see on the box. Depending on the Wasgij series, you have to discover, for example, what the depicted people are looking at, what is going to happen next, or what the situation will look like in the future. The Ravensburger editions are particularly special because of the packaging and their unique article number. The box features the well-known Wasgij logo, but at the same time, it is clearly visible that it is a Ravensburger Puzzle. The images themselves were not drawn specifically for Ravensburger. They are existing Wasgij images that have been released in a Ravensburger version. For collectors, this means that the same Wasgij puzzle can exist in different versions.
How do you recognize a Wasgij puzzle from Ravensburger?

A Ravensburger edition of Wasgij is usually quite easy to recognize.
- The large red WASGIJ? logo is clearly visible on the box.
- The packaging states Ravensburger Puzzle or the brand Ravensburger.
- The familiar blue Ravensburger area is usually located in the bottom right.
- The puzzle has its own Ravensburger article number.
- The box contains texts that refer to the specific Wasgij concept.
The design varies slightly by edition and period. For example, there are boxes with texts such as:
- Can you believe your eyes?
- A jigsaw from another perspective!
- What's the BIG Surprise?
- What Will Happen Next?
- Can You See Their Future?
These texts refer to the specific perspective or riddle associated with the puzzle.
Overview of Wasgij puzzles published by Ravensburger
Below are the 22 Ravensburger editions of Wasgij that are currently known to me.
Data is currently missing for a number of puzzles. As soon as I have found more information regarding, for example, the year of release or the Ravensburger issue number, I will further update the overview. The year in the table above refers to the Ravensburger edition, insofar as this is known. The original Wasgij puzzle may have been published earlier.
Wasgij Ravensburger puzzles with 500 pieces

A notable part of the Ravensburger series is the 500-piece Wasgij puzzles.
My overview contains five different examples:
The series with numbers 14620, 14621, and 14622 stands out in particular. These are three consecutive Ravensburger numbers. The boxes of these 500-piece editions feature, among other things, the text “Can you believe your eyes?”. Below that, it is explained from which perspective you should view the puzzle. For example, with Bear Necessities it says: “It's not what YOU see, but what the MOOSE sees.” With Home Improvement, it is precisely about what the fish sees. That is the typical Wasgij principle: the image on the box gives you the starting situation, but is not automatically the image you will ultimately puzzle.
Wasgij Ravensburger puzzles with 1000 pieces

The majority of well-known Ravensburger Wasgij puzzles consist of 1000-piece puzzles. My overview features 17 different examples. These include puzzles from the Wasgij Original, Mystery, and Destiny series. Particularly striking is the large series containing Ravensburger numbers 15970 through 15981. This is a continuous series of twelve different Wasgij puzzles.
Wasgij Original by Ravensburger
With Wasgij Original, everything revolves around the question of what the people in the image are looking at. You see a specific event on the box, but that is not the image you are going to assemble. You have to imagine what the depicted people see in front of them. Various Wasgij Original puzzles have also been released by Ravensburger.
Antiques Hunt is a fine example of a puzzle where the Ravensburger packaging clearly differs from the well-known Wasgij packaging. The Wasgij logo is prominently displayed at the top, while “Ravensburger Puzzle” is written on the left and the Ravensburger logo is visible at the bottom right. This box also features the text “What's the BIG Surprise? Can you solve the mystery!”. Catch Of The Day is Wasgij Original 16 and was released by Ravensburger as a 1000-piece puzzle with number 15979.
Wasgij Mystery by Ravensburger
Various puzzles from the Wasgij Mystery series have also been released as Ravensburger editions. With Wasgij Mystery, it is not about what someone sees, but about what happens next. You are shown a situation on the box and must use the clues to figure out how that scene develops. My overview lists the following Mystery editions:
The Ravensburger boxes from this series are easily recognizable by the word “Mystery” above the Wasgij logo and the large green circle with the text “What Will Happen Next?”. The puzzle boxes provide all kinds of clues about what might happen, but of course, you don't get to see the actual solution on the front.
Wasgij Destiny by Ravensburger
Wasgij Destiny revolves around the future. You see a specific situation on the box. The puzzler must then imagine what these people, buildings, vehicles, and other elements of the image might look like years later. There are also various Ravensburger editions within this series.
The Destiny boxes are recognizable, among other things, by the word “Destiny” above the Wasgij logo. These boxes also feature the fitting question “Can You See Their Future?”.
A special series: Ravensburger 15970 to 15981
For collectors, the series of Ravensburger numbers 15970 through 15981 is particularly interesting. These numbers follow each other in exact order:
| Ravensburger number | Wasgij puzzle |
|---|
| 15970 | Camping Commotion |
| 15971 | Stop The Clock |
| 15972 | Drama At The Opera |
| 15973 | High Street Hassle |
| 15974 | Picnic Time / The Proposal |
| 15975 | Time Travel |
| 15976 | Run Like The Wind |
| 15977 | The Office |
| 15978 | The Dog Show |
| 15979 | Catch Of The Day |
| 15980 | Road Trip |
| 15981 | The Final Hurdle |
This therefore concerns a continuous series of twelve Ravensburger item numbers. When collecting these puzzles, the box numbers are therefore very useful. A title or image may have appeared in multiple versions, whereas the Ravensburger number indicates exactly which edition it is.
High Tide with the unusual number 80929

A striking puzzle in the overview is High Tide. This 1000-piece puzzle has Ravensburger number 80929, clearly placing it outside the other number series. The packaging also aligns with other Ravensburger Wasgij releases. The box features the large Wasgij logo, the text “A jigsaw from another perspective!”, and the question “What's the BIG Surprise?”.
The same Wasgij image, but a different edition
For collectors, it is important to distinguish between the Wasgij image and the specific puzzle edition. A particular Wasgij image may have been released multiple times. The image itself may be the same, while the publisher, packaging, number of pieces, item number, or year of release differs. Therefore, a Ravensburger edition is not automatically the same puzzle edition as a Jumbo version, even though both boxes feature the same drawing. These differences are particularly interesting for collectors. Anyone trying to complete a collection should therefore not search solely by title. Also look at:
- the brand on the box;
- the number of puzzle pieces;
- the item or box number;
- the year of issue;
- the design of the box;
- the Wasgij series and the serial number.
This way, you can distinguish different editions of the same Wasgij image from each other.
An odd one out – The Dog Show!
This is a very special item, because this drawing has not appeared in an original Wasgij edition! That makes it very special. So, you can only make or obtain this drawing (puzzle) in the Ravensburger edition! That is this one:

Ravensburger Wasgij versus the regular Wasgij editions
The Ravensburger versions differ from the regular Wasgij puzzles in several respects.
| Characteristic | Wasgij Ravensburger | Regular Wasgij | |
|---|
| Puzzle concept | Wasgij | Wasgij | |
| Images | Existing Wasgij images | Wasgij images | |
| Publisher/brand on box | Ravensburger | Jumbo/Wasgij | |
| Item number | Ravensburger number | Jumbo/Wasgij number | |
| Well-known versions | 500 and 1000 pieces | Various numbers | |
| Packaging | Ravensburger design | Regular Wasgij design | |
| Interesting for collectors | Jq | Jq | |
The most important difference, therefore, does not lie in the puzzle concept. It remains a true Wasgij puzzle. The difference lies primarily in the specific Ravensburger edition.
Who drew these Wasgij Ravensburger puzzles?
The 22 Ravensburger Wasgij puzzles in this overview are drawn by Graham Thompson. Graham Thompson is one of the most famous illustrators in the history of Wasgij. His drawings are easily recognizable by their abundance of humor, exaggerated facial expressions, strange occurrences, and countless small details. This makes these puzzles not only fun to complete but also particularly suitable for viewing multiple times. Even after the puzzle is finished, there are often still all sorts of funny details to discover in the image.
Are Wasgij Ravensburger puzzles rare?
Nowadays, Ravensburger editions are encountered less frequently than many regular Wasgij editions. This makes them interesting for collectors who want to go beyond just collecting the well-known Jumbo editions. Exactly how rare an individual puzzle is is difficult to determine. Some copies are still regularly offered second-hand, while other Ravensburger editions are much harder to find. The condition of the puzzle also plays an important role. For a collector, a complete copy in a neat original box can be more interesting than a heavily used one. A puzzle that is still sealed can, of course, be even harder to find. In any case, the Ravensburger editions form an interesting distinct group within the collecting of Wasgij puzzles.
Collecting Wasgij Ravensburger puzzles
If you specifically want to collect Ravensburger editions, I recommend always checking the item number on the box. Searching solely by title can be confusing, as a title can also exist as a regular Wasgij edition. For example, if you are looking for Camping Commotion by Ravensburger, number 15970 is a much more accurate identification. For Drama At The Opera, that is 15972, and for Catch Of The Day, 15979. Especially with puzzles offered second-hand, it is wise to look closely at photos of the actual box.
How many Wasgij puzzles has Ravensburger published?
At the moment, there are 22 different Ravensburger Wasgij puzzles in my overview.
- 5 puzzles of 500 pieces;
- 17 puzzles of 1000 pieces.
However, at this moment I cannot say with certainty that every Ravensburger edition worldwide has been found. Therefore, I consider this page an overview of all Ravensburger Wasgij puzzles currently known to me. As soon as new copies or additional information surface, the list can be further updated.
Is a Wasgij Ravensburger puzzle missing?
Do you own a Wasgij puzzle published by Ravensburger that is not included in the list above? If so, I would love to hear about it. Additional information is also welcome. For example, a missing Ravensburger issue, the correct year of release, or a puzzle box variant that is not yet listed on this page. With the help of other Wasgij collectors, I aim to make this overview as complete as possible. Ultimately, this will result in the most comprehensive overview possible of the special Wasgij puzzles published by Ravensburger.
